Inspired by The Indie Stone's hit survival game, Project Zomboid, I created a comic book cover telling the story of my survivor in the zombie apocalypse,
I drew this piece soon after my dog had passed away, so I decided to draw a survivor accompanied by their dog enjoying a moment of calm in the apocalypse, A setting usually defined by its chaos and pain that was instead filled with a glimmer of hope in the first morning light.
No zombies or monsters in sight, instead they feast on some canned goods, a rare find in a seemingly empty world, though they are not alone as they have each other.
A wanted to flip the end of the world on its head to show that even in the hardest of times, there will always be a new light to show the way.
Process Work
I designed this piece a follow-up to my previous comic cover, hence the issue number being 2 here.
However unlike the previous issue, which features a character running in fear from the undead, I wanted to convey a sense of calm amidst the post apocalypse.
I also had recently got some new brush packs, and really wanted to use them here to get a more textured look. As such I used rake brushes to create grunge and scratches on surfaces and some different grass and leaf brushes to create some quick vegetation to add to the decaying landscape.
