A trailer for the game that my team member Cohen Ly created.

Wattson’s Way Home is a 2D puzzle-platformer game about helping a little spark find his way home. One day during a thunderstorm, Wattson fell from the sky, crashing into an unsuspecting house. Lost in a strange place filled with dust bunnies and leaky pipes, he only knows that he needs to make it back home.
Traverse through 3 different worlds, characterized by a different room in the house. Start in the basement as the storm outside progressively floods the floor. Escaping into the kitchen you'll find new bug enemies and more hazards to avoid, finally, you make it to the bedroom, where you can escape out the window and onto the rooftop lightning rod.
The game features 9 levels that for a normal player should take at least an hour to play through. Each level highlights different enemies and mechanics making them each a unique experience.

My work

I worked on Wattson's Way Home in a group of 4, and each of us used our strengths to build the best game we could.
I worked on almost every aspect of the game, besides sound design. I coded vast portions of the game, such as player movement, enemy AI, and plenty more specialized functions and mechanics. I also illustrated most of the characters and enemies, and plenty of in-game assets. Finally, I used everything we built as a team to create levels.
Meet Wattson and his friends!

Meet a colourful cast of characters along your journey to reach the lightning rod on the roof. Each section of levels features a different character who helps guide Wattson, offering players new challenges or starting side stories of their own.

Assets
Here are some of the assets I created for the game, ranging from props to character and enemy sprites.

Wattson's sprites allow him to show reactivity when jumping, landing, sticking to static surfaces, charging up or even dying.

The props above were created to be used in the 3rd and final area, the bedroom, specifically the children's bedroom.
I wanted to go crazy with this area and make it the space that I would have loved as a kid, with vibrant colours and a painterly look to the assets, I felt it made things seem more child-like in a way.
I created 3 different enemy types for the game, jumping dust bunnies, sliding dust bunnies, and bug scouts.
I also created kitchen assets such as cans, jars and bottles. I had a lot of fun creating these, inserting all kinds of jokes and references made them interesting to design.

There were plenty of features that we didn't get to use and many more that we never had the time to create. I'd love to revisit the game to make more levels, create unique mechanics and tell new stories with Wattson in the future.

I want to thank Cohen Ly, Alex Di Nobile and Emma Souannhaphanh for all of their amazing work on the game, I know none of this would have been possible without them.
